A village in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, is giving a one-time bonus of 100,000 yuan ($13,800) to residents when they turn 100 as part of its welfare policy for senior citizens.

One of the beneficiaries is a 103-year-old woman from Jinshun village in Hufang township, Qingshanhu district. Despite her age, she remains in good health, with sharp hearing and eyesight, and can still knit woolen items by hand. After receiving the money at home from village staff earlier this year, she said happily that the 100,000 yuan was "very durable".

The policy drew public attention after Luo Laichang, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress and Party secretary of Jinshun village, spoke about it during an open panel meeting of the Jiangxi delegation at the fourth session of the 14th NPC on March 6.

He added that the village will have four residents aged over 100 this year.

A village official surnamed Lai said the village authorities have introduced 20 types of welfare benefits for residents under a livelihood program focused on elderly care, education, support for vulnerable groups, and broader public well-being, according to China News Service.

The benefits include dividends from village-run enterprises, Spring Festival gifts for retired villagers, Double Ninth Festival allowances, longevity awards, scholarships, and education assistance grants.

Under the village's longevity award policy, residents receive 6,000 yuan at the age of 90, 12,000 yuan at 95, and a one-time reward of 100,000 yuan when they reach 100.
