The 2026 Jing'an Major Initiatives Launch for Integrated Development of Culture, Commerce, Tourism, Sports, and Exhibitions took place in Shanghai on Thursday, highlighting several key initiatives, including the forthcoming opening of the east section of Zhangyuan, the launch of the Shanghai Illustration & Pop Show, and the debut of the official "Shanghai Jing'an" Instagram account.

During the event, 10 major integrated initiatives were unveiled, encompassing audio-visual, performing arts, fashion, light art, lifestyle, block, sports competition, exhibition, park tour, and trend play. These initiatives outline core projects and landmark events across Jing'an district's culture, tourism, business, sports, and exhibition sectors for 2026.

Jing'an reported strong cultural and tourism consumption figures during the Spring Festival holiday, with its core cultural-tourism sites receiving over 70,000 visits, ranking third in Shanghai. The district's total cultural-tourism consumption exceeded 5 billion yuan ($727.4 million), securing the second place citywide, while shopping consumption alone reached 4.9 billion yuan, topping Shanghai's rankings.

The west section of the century-old Zhangyuan, a historic site in Jing'an, boasts a brand occupancy rate of over 90 percent and a daily average of 50,000 visits. Its east section will partially open in 2026, with full operation expected by the end of 2027, featuring high-end offices, performing arts centers, trend culture hubs, and other diversified formats.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai Illustration & Pop Show, rooted in Italy's renowned "Oscar of Illustration" IP, will run from May 29 to 31 at the Shanghai Exhibition Center. It will gather 50 brands and institutions from 10 countries and regions, as well as 200 illustrators, with an expected attendance of over 30,000.

In terms of cultural-tourism integration, the Shanghai Jing'an Theater Festival will kick off during the National Day holiday, with over 8 percent of shows making their domestic debut. The world's first League of Legends IP immersive musical, Immersive Arcane, will also take up long-term residency in the district.

For sports, the district aims to boost consumption through events, staging high-profile contests like the Shanghai Esports Masters and Suhewan Shanghai Paddling Open. Regarding green and urban landscapes, Jing'an will launch its first International Flower Show and collaborate with an international sculpture exhibition to stage a three-show gala, building on the success of its 2025 light art exhibition.

The event also appointed five new International Jing'an Ambassadors in fields such as digital technology and art culture, and launched the "Shanghai Jing'an" Instagram account. This forms a dual-channel overseas communication matrix with the existing Facebook account to showcase the district globally.
