Beijing vows to continue Middle East peace efforts
China's Foreign Ministry has said Beijing will continue to play a constructive role in efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East after Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday.
When asked at Wednesday's daily press conference in Beijing what steps China can take, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that the country "will continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace and ending the conflict, and will work together with countries in the region and the international community to contribute to the early restoration of peace and stability in the Gulf region".
Since the outbreak of the conflict over Iran, China has been working relentlessly for an end to the conflict, he said.
"As long as the conflict persists, our diplomatic mediation efforts will not stop, Lin said.
"An immediate ceasefire and an end to the conflict are the common expectation of the people of the region and the shared aspiration of the international community," he added.
