Former Party chief of Hubei province Jiang Chaoliang has been charged with bribery, according to a statement released by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Tuesday.

The SPP said the case involving Jiang, a former member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress and former deputy head of the NPC's Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, was assigned to prosecutors in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, for review and prosecution. The Nanjing People's Procuratorate has recently filed the case with the Nanjing Intermediate People's Court.

The case was previously investigated by the National Commission of Supervision and then transferred to prosecutors for examination and prosecution.

According to the prosecution, Jiang used his former positions, including Party chief and chairman of the Bank of Communications, deputy Party chief, vice chairman and president of China Development Bank, Party chief and chairman of the Agricultural Bank of China, deputy Party chief and governor of Jilin province, and Party chief of Hubei province, to seek benefits for others and illegally accept extremely large sums of money and valuables. Prosecutors said Jiang should be held criminally liable for the crime of bribery.

During the review and prosecution stage, procurators informed Jiang of his procedural rights, questioned him and heard the opinions of his defense counsel.

Jiang, 69, is a native of Hunan province. He started work in 1974 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1981. He previously held several key positions in China's banking system for a long time before moving into senior provincial roles in 2014.

He served as governor of Jilin from October 2014 to October 2016 and as Party chief of Hubei from October 2016 to March 2020. He later became deputy head of the NPC's Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee in August 2021.

Jiang was placed under investigation in February 2025 and was expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office in October 2025.
