China on Tuesday emphasized the critical importance of maintaining security and stability in the Strait of Hormuz, calling on all parties to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions in the region.

"The Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters are vital international passages for cargo and energy transportation. Preserving security and stability in this region serves the common interests of the international community," Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular news briefing.

China urges relevant parties to immediately cease military operations, prevent further escalation of tensions and avoid regional turbulence from causing greater impact on global economic development, Guo said.
