On the coast of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Su Haizhen carries a different kind of responsibility. Her mission is cultural preservation. As an inheritor of duxianqin, or one-string dulcimer, she is the keeper of the musical soul of the Jing ethnic group. A traditional musical instrument of the Jing ethnic group dating to the 8th century, it has only one string and is capable of producing two different sounds at the same time.

As vice principal of a school in Dongxing, Guangxi, Su teaches the instrument to students while working to integrate Jing cultural traditions into local tourism.

Her role as a member of the CPPCC National Committee this year gives her a platform to amplify the voice of her border community. She also brings forward concerns raised by local merchants and fishermen, ensuring their experiences contribute to broader discussions.

Although from different places, these deputies and members bring a piece of the country's future to the table, in their own way.
