China possesses world's largest traditional medicine service system
China has established the world's largest traditional medicine service system by revitalizing and developing traditional Chinese medicine, a senior TCM official said on Wednesday.
Yu Yanhong, director of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said at the annual meeting of TCM officials that China has continuously expanded and improved its TCM service system to deliver more high-quality services.
Over the past year, progress has been made in developing TCM specialty clinics in fields such as mental health, pediatrics, and gynecology, and in advancing the establishment of TCM rehabilitation clinics and centers. Additionally, several talent nurturing and training programs have been rolled out.
In 2025, 13 national key laboratories in the field of TCM were established, along with the country's first national pilot base for integrating artificial intelligence applications with TCM diagnosis and treatment.
By the end of 2024, the number of TCM institutions, TCM hospitals, and the total number of TCM-related medical visits had increased by 43.3 percent, 16.7 percent and 58.9 percent, respectively, compared with the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).
The administration said it will continue to strengthen innovation in the field of TCM, enhance TCM's disease prevention and treatment capabilities and upgrade the supply of TCM services.
