The Lao girl Vongthong Somphavath and her family had long dreamed of working on the train. The completion of the China-Laos Railway made that dream a reality, as she is now a high-speed train conductor. In an interview with China Daily, she said the new railway has drastically reduced travel times. Her commute from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, which used to take nearly eight hours, is now just two hours, allowing her to visit her family more frequently.
