An explosion occurred at a barbecue restaurant in Huai'an, Jiangsu province, on Saturday, with the extent of the casualties yet to be confirmed, according to the city's emergency management bureau.

The explosion took place near one of the gates of a residential compound at 4:23 pm. The fire department arrived at the scene promptly and on-site disposal is underway, according to the bureau.

In September 2022, another barbecue restaurant also experienced a gas tank explosion incident in Huai'an, resulting in one fatality, one serious injury and four minor injuries.
