Yin Hejun was appointed as the minister of science and technology, according to a decision adopted by National People's Congress, China's top legislature on Tuesday.

According to public information, Yin was born in 1963 and holds a doctoral degree in engineering.

He previously served in a wide range of positions, including vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice minister of science and technology, deputy mayor of Beijing and deputy Party secretary of Tianjin.

According to the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Yin was appointed as the ministry's Party Secretary earlier this month.

The new minister's predecessor, Wang Zhigang, born in 1957, was removed from the post, the decision said.

Wang had served as the deputy minister of science and technology since July 2012 and became the minister of science and technology in March 2018.
