A vast expanse of wheat stretching along a section of Grand Canal in Wucheng, Shandong province, is ready to be harvested.
The canal, the longest artificial waterway in the world, linking the national capital to Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, has played a significant freight-service role in China but also nurtured the crops and people living along its course.
