A 5.2-kilometer water pipe was set up at Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan province to transfer clean drinking water to 70 Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys, according to the Yunnan Green Environment Development Foundation.

The monkeys have suffered from water shortages during dry seasons for a long time. Normally, local workers carry water up the mountains to the monkeys and for other purposes.

"The pipe will help us ease the pressure and cost. It also provides additional water for forest fire prevention," said Yu Zhonghua, a forest ranger at the reserve.

The pipe was installed as a public welfare program, with cooperation between the foundation and the Zhizhi Public Welfare organization.
