An AP report accused Xinjiang of genocide for its birth rate drop. But a China Daily special investigation finds there is no special birth control policy in Xinjiang. The investigation offers more plausible explanations for the birth rate drop such as shifting cultural traditions, economic development and easy access to birth control.
