Authorities across the country seized 89,000 people illegally entering or attempting to exit China in 2020, the National Immigration Administration said on Wednesday.

The immigration authority also solved 1,957 drug-related cases and seized over 12 metric tons of drugs and nearly 600 tons of materials used to make drugs. They also handled more than 8,200 cases related to impeding border management and arrested 13,000 suspects.

In an effort to comply with national COVID-19 control and prevention measures, border inspection organs used big data analysis to screen out people entering the country from high-risk regions and issued early warnings to other pandemic control departments. Last year, immigration authorities sent about 45,000 early warnings about people from high-risk areas entering China to the local pandemic prevention and control authorities.

They verified health codes 14 billion times for people who entered the country and helped arrange quarantine for 125,000 foreigners.
