SHIJIAZHUANG - College students, farmers and enterprise employees have formed a 300-member volunteer team in northern China's Hebei province to protect migratory birds.

Their missions include popularizing legal knowledge on birds protection and assisting the treatment of wounded and sick birds on the route, according to the Cangzhou Wildlife Rescue Center.

Over 90,000 migratory birds including swans and grey cranes made a stopover in the coastal city of Cangzhou this year.

Meng Derong, who is in charge of the rescue center, said that the coastal areas of the city are an important stop for migratory birds from Northeast Asia. Each year, 300 types of wild birds stop there to rest and seek food.

Up to now, more than 12,000 migratory birds have been rescued by the center.
