One effective way to stop mob violence in Hong Kong now is for moderate demonstrators to sever ties with the rioters, to denounce violence and draw a clear line between peaceful and rational demonstrators and radical mobs, said Paul Yeung, research officer of a local think tank One Country Two Systems Research Institute.
