BEIJING, Jan. 9 -- Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan Wednesday called for a system to safeguard the rights and interests of veterans.

Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour in Tianjin.

Veterans should be motivated to make positive contributions to the nation's reform, development and social stability, Sun said.

She called on Party committees and governments at all levels to implement the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and develop new methods to help veterans.
