Ma Jian, vice-minister of State security, has been sentenced to life in prison for the crimes of bribery, forcing others to trade and insider trading.

Dalian Intermediate People's Court in northeast China's Liaoning province announced the sentencing on Thursday.

He has been deprived of his political rights and all his individual properties will be confiscated, according to the court.

In January 2015 he was placed under investigation for serious violations of Party discipline and in December 2016 he was expelled from the Party and removed from his post.
