Beijing hopes to see talks between Pyongyang and Washington as soon as possible, Zhang Yesui, spokesman for the first session of the 13th National People's Congress, told the Sunday's news conference.

Pyongyang and Washington are "two main players in the Korean Peninsula issue," Zhang said, adding that Beijing hopes not only to see ties between Pyongyang and Seoul keep developing, but also those between Pyongyang and Washington "could get going as early as possible".

The situation on the peninsula has eased after Pyongyang and Seoul conducted dialogue and cooperation over the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, and Beijing welcomes such positive development, Zhang said.

China also hopes that "all parties could seize this opportunity to maintain this good momentum", the spokesman said.

China is committed to denuclearization, peace and stability on the peninsula, and to the efforts of seeking a dialogue and consultation-based solution, Zhang said, adding that instability or conflict on the peninsula would serve no one's interests.
