Macao called to align with national programs
Premier Li Keqiang called on Macao on Friday to make active moves in its integration with the nation's development and key national programs, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Li said so when meeting with Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and heard Chui's annual report.
The region's government has achieved stable economic growth, improved people's lives, and fostered a harmonious society with steady governance and progressing public administrative reform, Premier Li said.
Li said the central government adheres to the "one country, two systems" policy and the principle of "Macao people governing Macao", and supports the region's government and its chief executive to run Macao in accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law.
The premier urged the region's government to implement supportive policies from the central government, promote diversified growth and increase talent cultivation and innovation.
Macao should accelerate building a global center for leisure and tourism and enhance the cooperation and service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, the premier said.
More efforts should be made to address prominent livelihood issues and improve housing, transportation, healthcare, infrastructure and education, to enhance people's sense of happiness and achievement, Li added.
Chui extended his gratitude to the central government's support of Macao's economic and social development. He said the region's government will actively link with national strategies and promote the region's diversified economic growth.
