DPRK notifies UN agency it will launch a satellite: reports

BEIJING -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has notified the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of its plans to launch a satellite later this month, media reports said Tuesday.

The DPRK notified the London-based UN agency that it will launch an Earth observation satellite between Feb.8 and Feb. 25, according to a Yonhap report.

The DPRK also notified the the Geneva-based International Telecommunications Union (ITU) of its plan, according to Japan's Kyodo News.

The DPRK side has not yet confirmed these reports.
