Japan to seek compensation from China

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-09-20 15:02

TOKYO - Japanese government's top spokesman Osamu Fujimura said Thursday Japan will seek compensation from China for damage inflicted on its diplomatic missions during recent protests in the country, local media reported.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura also said at a press conference that any indemnity claims by Japanese companies for damage to their properties in China should be handled through Chinese legal channels, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun's online edition said.

Earlier this week in many cities of China, angry crowds irked by Japan's "purchase" of parts of the Diaoyu Islands and the " nationalization" plan took to the street to assert China's territorial claims over the Diaoyu Island and affiliated islets. A small number of protestors vandalized a few Japanese stores and some Japanese-brand vehicles.
