Top leader Kim Jong Il has ordered the Korean People's Army to launch "rescue battle" to the disaster area of Sinuiju City, where flood water overflowed the bank forcing local people to their roofs waiting for rescue, it said.

The flood has also destroyed public establishment of downtown Sinuiju City.

Dozens of helicopters, ships and various equipments were dispatched to transfer some 5,150 victims in the disaster area.

No casualties were reported in the flood area.
