MEXICO CITY - An earthquake measuring 5.0 degrees on the Richter scale struck Ometepec, south Mexico on Monday night, but so far there have been no reports of casualties or damage, the country's National Seismological Service reported.

The tremor occurred at 21:28 local time (0228 GMT), with the epicenter about 8 km southwest of the city of Ometepec.

The earthquake followed Sunday's 5.5-magnitude tremor near Hidalgo city, also in south Mexico.

On April 4, a strong earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale rocked Mexico's Baja California bordering the United States, killing two people and injuring 233 others.
