The quarantine period ended about a week ago but the pandas have only been allowed out of their indoor enclosure for short periods when the zoo was closed to the public.

Zoo officials said that from Tuesday the pair would be free to roam their landscaped gardens as the public looked on.

Wang Wang and Funi arrived in Adelaide late last year and will stay for 10 years on loan from China.

The zoo hopes they will breed during their time in South Australia.
