MADRID -- The Spanish and Mexican governments signed here Wednesday an agreement aimed at promoting gender equality and the protection of women.

The agreement will allow the exchange of information and the analysis of strategies, experiences and evolution of the laws developed in both countries to combat the violence against women.

The agreement was signed by Maria del Rocio Garcia Gaytan, president of Mexico's National Institute of Women, and representatives of the Spanish Equality Ministry.

Spain has created a large juridical frame as well as dialogue and cooperation mechanisms with Mexico. Such mechanisms have diversified bilateral ties in various fields.
