HANOI - Vietnam plans to pour nearly 90 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (US$5.6 billion) into upgrading its water supply and drainage systems, and solid waste treatment from now to 2020, local newspaper Youth reported Tuesday.

Under a plan recently submitted by the Vietnamese Construction Ministry to the government for approval, 9,683 billion VND (US$605.2 million) will be spent on building seven solid waste treatment complexes, 37,515 billion VND (US$2.3 billion) developing water supply facilities, and 42,464 billion VND (US$2.7 billion) upgrading drainage systems in key economic zones nationwide.

Industrial bases in Vietnam generate some 2.6 million tons of solid waste each year, the newspaper said.
