LIMA -- Peru's National Police (PNP) is investigating two alleged members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) arrested Wednesday in the northeastern city of Iquitos, the force's Anti-terrorism Directorate announced Friday.

Johnny Cardenas Pasajan, 30, and Dayvis Vivas Guevara, 25, both Colombian nationals, were arrested by PNP in coordination with their Colombian counterparts in an early morning raid in the city in Loreto state, some 1,500 kms northeast of the capital Lima.

The two were transferred to police headquarters in Lima amid strict security Thursday .

Cardenas is believed to be the No.3 of FARC's 63rd Front and is allegedly involved in weapons smuggling and illicit drug trafficking, according to the PNP.

Peruvian Defense Minister Antero Flores-Araoz denied that FARC was operating in Peru.

"FARC troops have not been detected in Peru, at least not with uniforms," said Flores-Araoz. "It is difficult to define if they have entered without uniforms."
