India Sunday test-fired a supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from a military base in Orissa India, according to Indo-Asian News Service.

The missile was test-fired from launch complex No. 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) of Chandipur in the coastal district of Balasore at 11:21 a.m. Sunday.

The missile, which has a range of nearly 300 km and carries a conventional warhead of 300 kg can achieve speed of up to 2.8 Mach or nearly three times the speed of sound.

The supersonic missile jointly developed by India and Russia takes its name from the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers. It was first tested on December 22, 2004. The last test of the missile was conducted in February this year.
