Photography and American NGOs

As the speedy development of economy, NGOs in China is also in rapid growth in recent years. In the US, NGOs cover all kinds of areas and play a very positive role within the social framework. Alexia Foundation and Environmental Image are two very different NGOs. One aims at young photographers, the other environmental issues. However, they share one thing in common: to use photography as a tool to serve the society. In their lectures, they will demonstrate the important role of photography in NGOs and their development plan.

Jim Dooley

James C. Dooley is the Executive Administrator of the Alexia Foundation for World Peace and Cultural Understanding Through Photography. He has been a journalist and editor for more than 40 years at several American newspapers including The Los Angeles Times and Newsday in New York. He has lectured on photojournalistic ethics in China, Turkey, Russia, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Prague and the United States. He is the founding president of the Associated Press Photo Managers organization. He has taught photojournalism at Adelphi University and lectured at Renmin University in Beijing and Dalian College of Image Arts in Dalian, China. He has been a Fulbright Specialist in Photojournalism in residence at the Dalian College of Image Arts/Bolton University Master's program in International Photojournalism.

Tom Dooley

Photography and American NGOs

Tom Dooley, the founder and director of Environmental Images is a photographer based in Washington D.C. He works primarily with international non-governmental groups doing both still photography and video work.
