Wechat open to online scams

China Central Television called for precaution against scams of selling faked brands on WeChat following a recent case involving 100 million yuan ($16.3 million) scam in East China's Anhui province. A male suspect surnamed Fan confessed that he sold fake products advertised as authentic exports but were actually from factories in Guangdong.

The broadcaster reported on Sunday that such scams are increasingly tapping WeChat, a popular mobile instant chat app, to poach people who want to buy designers' brands at lower prices.
