Germany's Jan Frodeno, who was named as the first triathlete to both Ironman World Champion and the Olympic champion, won the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award. Niki Lauda, the three-time Formula 1 World Champion, was honored with the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, the Oscar of sports, are considered as the most prestigious awards in the international sporting calendar.

The winners are chosen by the Laureus World Sports Academy, a jury of more than 50 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all time.
