The city was the first in China to be introduced to Islam, during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), and its culture runs through the popular quarter’s veins. It is considered a must-see for visitors to the city, who will quickly find themselves amidst a whirlwind of bustle and bartering, steam, smells and delicious food.
