A young doctoral student from China's Jilin province, who is at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, in the city of Changchun, Jilin, has been invited to the 65th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, in the city of Lindau, Germany, in June.

Hu Yang joined this year's list of outstanding Chinese PhD students and young scientists, the only one from Jilin, when it was announced, on May 18, by the Sino-German Center for Research Promotion -?a joint venture by China's National Natural Science Foundation and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, German national science foundation.

Hu came to the institute in 2009 to do his master and PhD degrees, after getting his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Jilin University, and has been a member of the high-performance fuel cell catalyst research team, led by Prof Xing Wei. By March of this year, he had published five papers in international chemistry journals such as Angew.Chem.Int.Ed., ChemSusChem, and J.Power Sources.

The annual Nobel gathering was started by two German physicians back in 1951 to invite Nobel Prize winners in the fields of chemistry, physics, biology and economics from around the world, as well as top PhD students and young scientists to share their ideas. Young Chinese have been included on the list since 2004.
