S&T institute set up at Xi'an Jiaotong University

The Frontier Institute of Science and Technology was inaugurated at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Southwest China on Friday afternoon.
As a large comprehensive research institution covering physics, chemistry, biology, life science, basic medical science and materials science, the Frontier Institute of Science and Technology has been set up to cope with the new situation that talented personnel from overseas flock to institutions of higher learning, according to Zheng Nanning, president of Xi'an Jiaotong University.
He said his university would take advantage of the situation to build itself into a world-class institution of higher learning.
The Frontier Institute of Science and Technology is like a special economic zone boasting advanced managements in line with international norms and encouraging young scholars to aim higher and higher, Zheng said.
The university will offer it an internationally competitive funding, physical space, excellent students, and administrative support, according to Zheng.
He revealed that a large number of applications for important positions had found their way into the institute.
