Man wins 1m RMB by drinking a liter beer in 4.13 seconds

Updated: 2009-07-27 15:33 Huang Zhirong won one million Renminbi at a drinking contest at the Chongqing Beer Festival by drinking a liter of beer on Sunday in just 4.13 seconds, setting a contest record. The newly wealthy (and perhaps slightly inebriated) Mr. Huang then offered to treat the other ten contestants he had so quickly defeated to dinner. "It will be my treat," said he, whose speed-drinking ability has earned him the nickname the "Siphon King," said. When asked for tips about how to drink quickly, Huang drew an analogy: "It is just like a toilet bowl: you have to suck the drink, not pour it." He reportedly drinks three or four bottles of beer each day. Liu Lianghong, a nurse from the local Cancer Hospital, won the women's competition, despite apparently not having drunk a single alcoholic drink in the last two years. The Chongqing Beer Festival is held annually in Datanwan Stadium, and the drinking contest, known as the Shancheng Beer Cup, is a central attraction. Shancheng is a nickname for Chongqing. Organizers of the event emphasized that drinking too much can be dangerous and that one should never drink and drive. |
