Couple gets deep in debt caring for abandoned baby

Updated: 2008-07-08 16:00 He Chengsheng and his wife He Genyu of Haikou, Hainan province have accumulated debts worth 50,000 yuan ($7,200) on medication and treatment for their adopted son who suffers from encephalatrophy. The couple, from central China's Hunan province, earns a living from sorting through garbage. They found their adopted son, whom they named He Zhihao, newly born and abandoned near a refuse tip in Haikou two years ago. During the past two years, the couple has spent their life savings on medical treatment for their adopted son. Thanks to their efforts, He Zhihao's condition has considerably improved. He Chengsheng says that he and his wife will continue to pay for He Zhihao's medical treatment as long as there is hope for him. (Nanguo Metropolis Daily)
