僵尸官方網(wǎng)站 (jiangshi guanfang wangzhan): Zombie official websites

(China Daily) Updated: 2015-03-30 07:45

Recently the State Council, China's cabinet, announced the first nationwide inspection of government websites at all levels would take place from March to December. The inspection aims at evaluating government websites at all levels nationwide and removing those that are inactive, the so-called zombie websites, and effectively rectify the problems with others, such as infrequent updating and the lack of useful information.

With the rapid development of the Internet in China, many local authorities established government websites. But it's not uncommon to find that these government websites, which were supposedly created to offer a more efficient and useful service to the public, have been sleeping for a long time. The public can hardly get any useful information or public service from them, and they fail to be an effective channel for soliciting public opinions. This phenomenon shows the nonfeasance of some local officials.

The national inspection will deal with these zombie websites, remind local officials to perform their duties, and force local authorities to accelerate reform in order to improve modern governance.
