The banking system in China is rather troublesome, indeed. When I got a new passport, they didn't accept it at the bank counter (at BOC) as it had a new number - and I had to open a new bank account (at ICBC) and move all my assets there by visiting the ATM everyday, withdrawing the daily limit and depositing it at the other bank. However, the BOC also changed its ebanking policy, so I can't move any money to the ICBC account when I am not in China.
