More must be spent on education in poor areas

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-07-12 16:47

It is worrying to see that poverty is passed down from generation to generation after a report highlighted the fact that 40 million children live in poverty, said an article in the 21st Century Business Herald (excerpts below).

The Education Ministry report shows although the government increased its education input in poor areas, there was still a big difference in terms of education investment in different regions.

The more developed the region, the more funding for education it received.

To create a fair education environment, the government should regard education as a basic public service.

Every penny spent on education will make a difference in poor regions.

To break the poverty trap, the government must increase its funding to poor areas.
