More research needed on cancer threat

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-07-03 17:35

Supposed links between cancer and the environment must be examined, said an article in the Beijing News Daily (excerpt below).

Statistics show that 8,550 people get cancer each day in China. One in every eight deaths is because of cancer. The fatal disease threatens public health and places a heavy burden on the medical sector.

Medical and public health research institutes should step up their research in this field to raise public awareness of cancer prevention and control.

The people have a right to know about the environment they live and whether it can cause cancer or not.
