Chinese enterprises must behave themselves in Africa

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-03-28 22:27

Chinese enterprises should pay attention to improving their images in Africa, says an article in China Business News. Excerpt:

Some enterprises' poor performances in Africa affect the overall image of Chinese enterprises in the continent. They abuse workers, pollute the environment and are involved in corruption cases. How to solve this problem concerns the whole development of Sino-Africa relations.

Chinese enterprises have responsibility for the troubles caused by their disrespect for local laws and cultures.

A bad company's image will threaten its sustainable development in the long run. Chinese enterprises should abide by the rules in three ways: The first is local laws, cultures, religions and customs; the second is business ethics and market laws; the third requirement is their social responsibility.

African countries have a long history and traditions and religions vary from place to place.

China and Africa are highly compatible with each other in terms of industrial structures and market formats. Chinese enterprises should value this advantage and the historical heritage passed down on both sides.

Chinese enterprises should have higher global pursuits and quickly build up their learning curves.
