Luo Xia, a deputy to the National People's Congress and deputy head of the school of transportation and logistics at Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, Sichuan province

I paid great attention to reading the draft of general provisions for the civil code; it's not just a job for law professors, but for everyone. The draft is the first step in making our civil code, as well as a key way of improving the rule of law, which has been promoted by the central leadership in recent years.

Li Yihu, an NPC deputy and head of the Taiwan Institute at Peking University in Beijing

The draft of the general provisions will provide a foundation to push forward the civil code. The draft indicates the tone of the code. I look forward to it and would like to discuss it with other deputies. What's more, I hope to see the draft play a role in protecting civil rights if it is passed and ratified.
