After graduating with a major in Film Direction from Beijing Normal University, Li Guang immediately began to collaborate with China's established directors, most recently as Director's Assistant for Zhang Yimou's Hero after being recognized for her outstanding work on his earlier films Not One Less and Happy Times. Li Gung again acted as Assistant Director for the 2002 film Fly My Heart, which won Best Film award at the Lyons Film Festival in France. In 2002, she independently directed 99 Again, which was later awarded Best Short Film at the Annual Beijing Student Film Festival. It has also been screened at the 9th Hong Kong Short Film Festival and Oberhausen Film Festival in Germany.

"I know that real life is sometimes even more wonderful than a film, but for me films are dreams that I can realize."

Li Guang will present a love story set in the mystical Women's Kingdom depicted in the Chinese classic Journey to the West.
