Earth Worship Festival

The Earth Worship Festival is when Mosuo pay tribute to the Earth. It falls at the end of the eleventh month of the lunar calendar.
At the ceremony, people recite scripture to worship the god of earth. They also pray for protection from natural disasters such as draught, flood, hail and pests.
While the scriptures are recited, villagers light fireworks and chop green tree branches as part of the ceremony.
