The Dunhua forestry administration in North China's Jilin province has discovered a gigantic Chinese yew,?with DBH (diameter at breast height) of 122 cm?in its forest farm.

Chinese yew or Taxus chinensis is an endangered variety under special state protection.

This newly discovered Chinese yew is about 1,800 years old and 28 meters tall. It was found in the Shimengzi forest farm, a source of the Mudan River, 1,027 meters above the sea level.

"The forest farm didn't have logging in recent years, and has good management, so this ancient tree is in good condition," explained by an officer in Dunhuan forestry administration.

This gigantic tree was crowded by tourists in the past Labor Day holiday. The local forestry security authorities have mapped out protection measures for it.

There are other over one thousand such trees in the forest farm, according to the forest farm. Early in 2013, a 2,800-year-old Chinese yew was found in Jilin, the oldest one discovered in China to date.
