October is the golden season to harvest porphyra plants in Pingtan. Porphyra planters in Aaodong village, Pingtan island county in Fujian province, begin reaping these purple marine plants with scissors or bare hands.

Farmers dry fresh porphyra on rocks. Reaped porphyra should be immediately dried by spreading them out on the surface of cleaned rocks. This natural-drying method helps maintain the original smell and nutritional ingredients.
