A delegation of scholars and experts from Taiwan visited the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone in Fujian province on Aug 12 to investigate its development, local media reported.

Pingtan is designated an experimental zone for cross-Straits communication and cooperation. It has had basic infrastructure conditions after five years of development, said Li Dejin, secretary of the Pingtan Party Working Committee, in a meeting with the guests.

Pingtan will make innovations to provide better service for Taiwan people working and living in Pingtan, and hopes to integrate with Taiwan economically, culturally and socially, he added.

Pingtan’s dramatic change in many ways compared with three years ago has impressed Hsieh Meng-hsiung, board chairman of the Taipei-based Shih Chien University, who said that he is looking forward to future cross-Straits cultural activities in Pingtan .
