The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Fujian cross-Straits performing arts centre was held in Fuzhou on Oct 22. The centre, with an investment of 240 million yuan, is expected to be completed in 2016.

The authorities hope that the venue will become an important center for art and performances - including acrobatics. It will include two parts: the main building - a 803-seat Min Opera theatre - and several related smaller structures, covering an area of 8,950 square meters, and the second part concerns a training facility for the Fujian provincial acrobatics troupe, covering an area of 6,249 square meters.
