Actors share real stories on stage

Audiences may be bewildered when entering the theater for the play, The Chair 2.0.

They will see three big circles of various types of chairs on the stage, including sofas, cushions, a wheelchair and a pram. What's more amusing is, the director-cum-actor Wang Chong will invite the audience to sit on the chairs to be part of the play.

The Chair consists of four monologues by three young performers and the 70-year-old theater director Lin Yinyu. They share their stories, such as sickness of a relative, past lovers and aging issues, with the audience.

Wang tries to get performers to channel their real selves through the play. According to him, the performance is like an anti-dramatic documentary and the performers often cry in rehearsals as it's a process to open their minds.

7:30 pm, until Sept 30. Muma Theater, 22 International Art Plaza, 32 Baiziwan Road, Chaoyang district, Beijing. 400-228-228.
